EPA Names Scotsman Ice Systems 2012 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

March 1, 2012

VERNON HILLS, Ill.— Mar. 1, 2012—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Scotsman Ice Systems as a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Product Manufacturer for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products and helping to educate consumers about those products. Scotsman’s accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 15, 2012, which marks the 20th anniversary of ENERGY STAR.

Scotsman will be honored for its leadership in manufacturing products that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency. Scotsman offers more than 65 ENERGY STAR-qualified ice machine models. Additionally, 31 Scotsman ice machines not only meet the current ENERGY STAR efficiency requirements, but are also qualified for the maximum Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier-2 qualified performance criteria, which exceeds the current ENERGY STAR standard.

Over the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved nearly billion on utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 350 million vehicles with help from ENERGY STAR.

“Food industry professionals seek ice machines that will not only improve their bottom line but the environment as well,” said Matt Allison, vice president of engineering, Scotsman Ice Systems. “With a Prodigy ENERGY STAR-qualified ice machine, Scotsman customers can increase efficiency by saving up to 20 percent more energy than other non-qualified ice machines.”

The 2012 Partner of the Year Awards are given to manufacturers and retailers that successfully promote and deliver ENERGY STAR qualified products, saving consumers money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ENERGY STAR program, EPA is proud to recognize Scotsman Ice Systems with the 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Product Manufacturer Award,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Scotsman Ice Systems and all our ENERGY STAR award winners truly demonstrate how the leadership and commitment from EPA’s partners has made a difference in the lives of Americans since 1992 saving them billions of dollars in energy costs and improving the health of our families, the planet and our future.”
